Megerdich Mikayelian

Megerdich Mikayelian is currently a guitar professor at the Lebanese National Higher Conservatory of Music, Parsegh Ganatchian College of Music, and Antonine University. Also, he teaches at the Theological Seminary of Armenian Catholicossate of Cilicia, Antelias-Bikfaya. He is the coordinator of the classical guitar division of the Parsegh Ganatchian College and the founder, artistic director, and conductor of the Guitar Ensemble and the Davigh Orchestra at Parsegh Ganatchian College of Music. In addition to teaching and performing in concerts, he is also the author of the book “Armenian Liturgy and Armenian Songs for Guitar” published by the Armenian Catholicossate of Cilicia in 2002.

He has performed in several countries, such as Lebanon, Syria, Armenia, Canada, Sweden and the UAE as a soloist and as a member of various ensembles, like the Madrigal Ensemble of Hamazkayin, and duos with guitar, violin and flute. He has also attended several master classes with internationally renowned guitarists such as Raphael Andia.

In 2006, Mikayelian released his first CD for classical guitar, in collaboration with Hamazkayin and Pomegranate Music. Mikayelian was awarded a Certificate of Appreciation by the school of Fine Arts at the Lebanese University for his performances at the Open Door Festival in 2006 and 2007. He was also awarded the Shield of Appreciation during a performance organized by the Armenian Evangelical College in 2006. His second Classical Guitar Album “Kaleidoscope” was recorded in Athens/Greece and released in 2008, courtesy of Pomegranate Music/USA. In 2010, Mikayelian released a DVD for classical guitar, courtesy of Hamazkayin.

In 2011, after his performance in Toronto, Canada, Mikayelian was awarded from the House of Commons of Canada by the Hon. Jim Karygiannis, Member of Parliament of Scarborough-Agincourt. The Hon. Jim Karygiannis also gave Maikayelian the Charter of Rights of the Canadian citizen as an award in 2012.

He also performed as a soloist with the Lebanese Philharmonic Orchestra. Under his artistic direction and his conductorship, the Guitar Ensemble of Parsegh Ganatchian College won a special award in a TV show. Mikayelian has also served as a member of the jury in several musical competitions.

The renowned "Gitarr och Luta" Classical Guitar Magazine in Sweden has published the "Oror" song, arranged for Classical Guitar by Megerdich Mikayelian. The "Gitarr och Luta" magazine also included in the same issue about the musician Megerdich Mikayelian.
